Designed by Charles and Ray Eames. "Why don't we make an updated version of the old English club chair?"
With this comment, Charles Eames initiated the development of the Lounge Chair, a process that took several years.
This iconic armchair designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956 set new standards: it is not only lighter, more elegant and more modern than the conventional club chair – it is also more comfortable.
It went on to become one of the great furniture designs of the 20th century.

These days the authentic Eames Lounge Chair is available from Vitra in two sizes: with Classic Dimensions and with New Dimensions for taller users. Furthermore, both options are now complemented by this Fabric upholstery option.

Materials
Moulded plywood with three wood veneer options for the outer 'shell':
- American Cherry (USA)
- Santos Palisander (Bolivia; certified sustainable source)
- Black-pigmented Walnut (USA)

The aluminium five star swivel base is available in either Polished Aluminium or Polished with Black Sides.
*Note - all bases are fitted with hard glides for carpet as standard; felt glides optionally available for hard floors - please contact us if you require this.
